Couples may be at an advantage when it comes to getaways. Almost everyone wants to cater to romantic vacationers, and many locations offer the perfect settings for couples. Outside of romance, though, is the advantage of having a travel companion, something singles often have to search for or do without.

Brainstorm about your desires. Then visit your local travel agent’s website for the most up-to-date getaways, some of which may be departing within a week or two. There is typically a cruise vacation up for grabs, some type of beach getaway or casino excitement. For last minute Valentine’s romance or holiday getaways, however, you might pay the higher price if there are reservations available at all.

During the winter, many major United States cities have attractive travel deals to encourage visitors. You might consider New York, rich in theater, food, architecture, and art at any time of the year. Even though January is the wetter season of the year in San Francisco, this city remains temperate and navigable on foot. You might also check travel prices to secondary cities, such as Portland, Oregon, Austin, Texas, Savannah, Georgia, or Santa Fe, New Mexico--all unique and vibrant locales.

Should you and your mate enjoy nature, you might take a few minutes to check the adventure travel options. Though most of these require booking months in advance, there might be something available locally: a ski week, river kayaking or a hiking and camping vacation. Perhaps you’d both enjoy hiking the Tuscan mountains of Italy or biking the Irish countryside, if money is no object and spots are available. Remember that last minute travel outside the United States requires a little advance preparation.

Enjoy pampering yourself or your partner? Look into a spa vacation. Increasingly popular, spa vacations are available in countless locations, inside and outside the United States. Though many of the more renowned might be booked, you might be surprised if you are traveling during an off-peak season. Many spa resorts make reservations available online, or you might check with your travel agent for special deals.

For an impromptu last minute getaway, look locally or regionally. Check availability of rooms in that bed and breakfast you both have always wondered about.
